Maarit UtriainenContemporary circus artist
The core of circus is seeing new possibilities and trying them out. I am interested in concepts, contexts and conventions. Eager to digg, research, question and blow them up. In my work as a contemporary circus artist I do this by questioning the physical norms, aesthetics and dynamics of circus art. In my work I´m rattling the prevalent idea of contemporary circus and bringing the spotlight back to the historical roots of circus; new insights and social reflections. |
Netta ReunanenI´m circus artist specialized in tight wire and physical theatre. I work as a performer, choreographer, director and/or set desingner in contemporary circus performances.
I´m working with characters, atmospheres, intensity, manipulation and balance. I´ve created performances for all ages and for adults. I´m interested in working in different spaces, in more traditional performance stages and also outdoors or places that are originally meant for something else than areas for performing. Unifying theme in my work is human, human interactions and confluence. I have a fearless approach to creative process and as an artist I like to explore and blur the lines between circus, dance and theatre arts. I´m interested in constantly renewing myself and challenging my own talents and creativity. I am interested in bringing objects to life, manipulating my body and using my speciality, balance, in multiple and new ways. As a member of a working group I want to create a welcoming and respectful atmosphere in to the work community through my activities. For me, performing arts is a field of imagination where you can try stepping into another's boots, redefining yourself, forgetting the past and being 110% yourself. Through different roles, I believe I understand something new about my fellow human beings, find connections between us, and thus create more empathy to the world. I also hope to give this experience to the people in the audience. |
Reija TapaninenI am a number eight resting on my side travelling through the lines and finding myself crossing the meeting point again and again.
As I work as an artist I dismantle something big to find smaller pieces: understandable fractures to human knowlidge. I see my work as a part of something collective as I take part of creating comprehension only to return it back to the next person to start their unfolding and processing. My work as an circusartist actualizes mainly from a position of a director. My work leans on collective work, mix and match between artforms trying to solve the mystery of a great performance, connection, empathy and knowlidge. |
